This Victorian Punch Shouldn’t Work… But It Does
I didn't really think this would turn out as good as it did. I can also say that by the end of the party I took this to the bowl was completely empty, success! Make sure to get on the email list at https://thecocktaildad.com so you don't miss any future videos!
// Charles Dickens Punch (my riff)
2 cups (475 ml) Rum (I used Havana Club but try a Jamaican Rum)
1 cup (240 ml) Cognac or Brandy (I used Carlos I)
3/4 cup (188 g) Demerara sugar (raw sugar)
Skin and juice of 3 lemons
4 cups (950 ml) water (or a black tea is popular)
1. Combine the peels of 3 whole lemons into a bowl with 3/4 cup of Demarara sugar. Massage it together and let sit for at least 30 minutes.
2. Add booze then gently warm it up.
3. Light a small spoon of the booze on fire then slowly lower the spoon into the heat resistant vessel (dutch oven in my case) and let burn for ~3 minutes.
4. Extinguish fire by covering it.
5. Add water (or tea) and juice from the 3 lemons
Serve warm and with a lemon wheel for garnish in a fancy tea cup
