Better Than an Old Fashioned!

This is the cocktail that I make at home more often than an Old Fashioned. It requires no custom syrups and no refrigeration (except the ice and glass of course). Enjoy this drink but be careful because it will change what you think about the old fashioned!

// History of the Monte Carlo
The Monte Carlo is a rye-based classic first published in 1948 by David A. Embury in The Fine Art of Mixing Drinks.

It’s a cousin of the Manhattan and Old Fashioned, but instead of sweet vermouth or sugar, it uses Bénédictine—a French herbal liqueur that adds honeyed, spiced depth.

Some cocktail historians trace earlier versions back to 1937’s The How and When.

Simple, bold, and balanced, the Monte Carlo highlights rye’s spice with a smooth herbal sweetness.
